Full-grain leather is the highest quality leather available. It is cut from the outermost layer of the hide with the complete natural grain intact — no sanding, buffing or surface corrections. This makes it the most durable, breathable and beautiful leather that exists.

What is the difference between full-grain and top-grain leather?

Full-grain leather retains the complete natural surface of the hide. Top-grain leather is sanded or buffed to remove marks, which creates a more uniform look but weakens the fibres. Full-grain leather is stronger, more breathable and develops a richer patina over time.

How long does full-grain leather last?

Full-grain leather typically lasts 15–25 years with basic care. Because the natural fibre structure is preserved, it becomes stronger with use rather than weaker. Many Jekyll & Hide customers have carried our full-grain wallets daily for over a decade.

Why does Jekyll & Hide use full-grain leather?

Jekyll & Hide uses full-grain and premium top-grain leather exclusively because it outlasts all other leather types and improves in appearance over time. We do not use bonded leather, PU leather or genuine leather anywhere in our collection.
